Roadside Mowing Permits Available in Nebraska

(KTNC) - The Nebraska Department of Roads has opened its program that allows landowners to obtain permits to harvest hay from state highway rights-of-way. Landowners with land that abuts a state highway right-of-way can apply for a permit until July 30. Permits cost $40.
After July 30, anyone may apply for the permit.
Applications must include proof of one million dollars in liability insurance. Any hay harvested without a permit will become property of the state and may be confiscated by the Department of Roads.
If a permit was issued last year, a permit for mowing and harvesting hay from the same area is not allowed this year, and Interstate highways and freeways are excluded from the program.
Landowners who obtain permits may begin harvesting on July 15th. Others are restricted to harvesting between August 1st and September 15th.
Permits are available at Department of Roads area maintenance offices across the state.
