(KTNC) - Mound City Aldermen approved the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1st when they met last week. Aldermen approved the first reading of the budget ordinance then approved the second and final reading after further review and discussion. The ordinance was approved unanimously.
The Council approved two other ordinances during the meeting. One authorizes the redemption of the outstanding certificates for the 2008 street lease. The other ordinance removes Railroad Street as a designated through street in Mound City. Both ordinances were approved unanimously.
In other business, Aldermen approved a bid of $9,420 from Pinnacle Electric to upgrade the electrical system at City Hall. Upgrades include removing the electrical panel from the janitor’s closet, relocating circuits to the new panel from the hallway and the Clerk’s office, and removing old conduit that is no longer in use.
Those upgrades are on top of $8,400 in emergency repairs that have already been made.
The city received two bids for the work and Pinnacle’s was the lower of the two.
Aldermen tabled action on bids for street repairs in the area of Nebraska and 8th Street. The repairs include 2300 square feet of concrete
street surface and 36-feet of curb and gutter.
The city received two bids for the work, with the low bid from J-and-E Concrete in the amount of $26,570.
City officials hope to complete the repairs before school starts in August, since the street would have to be closed for two weeks while the work is done. However, the repairs are not included in the Street Fund budget and the city has no funds for such a costly repair.
