(KNZA)--One year behind bars.
That's the sentence handed down Thursday in Jackson County District Court for the 29-year-old Topeka man accused of aiding two accused murderers.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says Aaron Lofton will serve the 12 months with the Kansas Department of Corrections followed by 12 months of probation.
Lofton last month entered a plea of no contest to a charge of attempting to obstruct the apprehension or prosecution of a felon.
Authorities say he was the driver of a car located in Iowa where then suspected murderers Lloyd Wabaunsee and Desiree Shopteese were hiding in the trunk.
Those two were originally charged with 2nd degree murder in connection with the January shooting death of Mayetta resident Kevin Stanley.
Shopteese, however, pled guilty in April to a lesser charge of obstruction or appehension. Originally placed on supervised probation, she was arrested last week for violating the terms of her probation by allegely testing postive for methamphetamine use. She now faces prison time.
Wabaunsee remains charged with 2nd degree murder, and is scheduled to be arraigned on the morning of July 26th.
