( KMZA )--Shouts of “ Rider Coming!” will echo across the Pony Express Trail when the National Pony Express Association rides the famous trail by horseback in a 10-day, 24 hour a day event, beginning next week.
The first rider will leave the Patee House in St. Joseph, Missouri at 10 o’clock Monday morning ( June 17th ) and the last rider will gallop into Old Sacramento, California on June 27th.
The route will be over the more than 19-hundred mile Pony Express National Historic Trail, from Missouri, across Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, to California.
More than 600 riders will participate. They will be carrying commemorative letters and personal mail.
The Re-ride is an annual event to commemorate the Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company of 1860-1861.
In conjunction with the Re-ride, the Seneca Area Chamber of Commerce and Seneca Downtown Impact will present the 3rd annual Pony Express Re-ride Party Monday evening from 6 to 9 on Main Street in Seneca. Activities will include a BBQ, music, bingo, sponge toss, stick horse race, bounce house, Renyer’s barrel train, fire truck tours, a mini petting zoo, donkey rides and much more.
