Nemaha NRD Facilities Re-Open for Public Use
06/07/2013

(KLZA) Nemaha Natural Resources District crews report that water levels have receded at Kirkman’s Cove and Iron Horse Trail Lake allowing for boating restrictions to be lifted at both parks as of Thursday, June 6. Work was required to reset the boat docks, which were left askew by the high waters. Visitors are also alerted that debris deposited around the lake edges has not yet been cleared since the ground is too soft for the machinery required to clean up the mess. However, that should not hinder users from enjoying most of the amenities at the parks.

Nemaha NRD crews have also worked to reopen the flooded sections of the Steamboat Trace trail north of Brownville this week. However, the section from Brownville south to the Cooper Nuclear Station is still soft, so caution is advised on that stretch. Visitors can, therefore, now access the entire 22 miles of the former railroad right-of-way from Brownville to Nebraska City.

Updates on the status of the trail will be made available on the NRD’s website  www.nemahanrd.org, or contact the office at (402) 335-3325 (after hours a recorded message will provide updates).

The Nemaha NRD appreciates everyone’s cooperation and understanding during the closures. If you have questions, contact the NRD in Tecumseh at 335-3325.
