(KTNC) - The average price for gasoline in Nebraska is within five-cents of the all-time record high, but pump prices should start falling soon.
Gail Weinholzer, spokeswoman for Triple-A-Nebraska, says due to the near record high gas prices, fewer travelers will be on the road for the upcoming holiday, both in Nebraska and nationwide, compared to last year. (play audio :15)
Gasoline prices are up 65-cents in the last month. Weinholzer says the temporary shutdown of several regional refineries is to blame for the spike. (play audio :14)
On the plus side, Weinholzer believes that prices have peaked and will start to drop gradually. (play audio :21)
The statewide average in Nebraska is now $4.05 a gallon, well above the national average. Prices peaked at $4.10 a gallon in July of 2008.
