Resurfacing Project Begins in Atchison & Doniphan Counties
05/17/2013

( KNZA )--A resurfacing project began Thursday on a nearly 32-mile stretch of K-7 and K-9 in Atchison and Doniphan Counties.
The project will take place on K-7 from the north city limits of Atchison just south of the K-20 junction to the Kansas/Nebraska state line, and on K-9 from the East 159 junction to the U.S. 73 junction.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the project will include a 1-inch surface mill and 1.5-inch asphalt overlay along with rocking of the adjacent shoulders.
Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Crews began work Thursday on K-7 Highway at White Cloud in Doniphan County and will move north to the Kansas/Nebraska state line. Crews will first complete resurfacing work on K-7 then move to K-9.
While the project is underway, traffic will be reduced to one lane and motorists will be directed through the work zone via a pilot car and flagger operation. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.
Herzog Contracting of St. Joseph, MO is the primary contractor on the nearly $2.3 million project, which is to be completed in mid-October, weather permitting.
