(KNZA)--An occassional scam resurfaces in the local area, with callers using specific, personal details, in their attempt to bilk would be victims of thousands of dollars.
Brown County Sheriff John Merchant says his office has received around five reports of the scam in recent days(Play Audio)
Merchant says the caller, reported to sound similar to the grandchild being imitated, asks for up to 35-hundred dollars, and requests secrecy(Play Audio)
Merchant says, as with any type of phone solicitation from an unknown caller, no information should be given. He advises would be victims to tell the caller to contact his office or other local law enforcement to verify the arrest, which usually stops the calls from coming.
