(KNZA)--A Topeka man, accused of murdering a man in the capital city, as well as facing numerous charges in southeast Nebraska, including attempted second degree murder in connection with a shootout that left a law enforcement officer injured, is now facing a seperate federal charge.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom says Michael Dean Engstrom has been indicted for the unlawful use of a firearm after a felony conviction.
The 33-year-old apparently committed that crime prior to his most recent string of alleged criminal activities.
The U.S. Attorney's office does not specify when Engstrom will be tried on the federal charge.
Engstrom will face prosecutors in Nebraska prior to answering to those in Kansas.
