(KLZA) Statewide events are scheduled to observe National Community Development Week, March 31-April 6 in Nebraska.
In Lincoln, Governor Dave Heineman will announce the 2013 Showcase Communities during a news conference held April 2nd, at 10 a.m., in the Governor’s Hearing Room at the Nebraska State Capitol. Communities up for the award include Auburn, Falls City, Pawnee City, Cozad, and Sidney.
The cities of Bellevue, Lincoln and Omaha also will honor individual recipients, organizations and projects, respectively.
First started in 1986 by the National Community Development Association, National Community Development Week drew attention to outstanding accomplishments of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which has been in place for 39 years. Later, accomplishments of the HOME Investment Partnerships program also were incorporated into the week-long observation.
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development oversees administration of all CDBG funding to Nebraska communities with the exceptions of Bellevue, Lincoln and Omaha.
