(KTNC) - University of Nebraska Extension has scheduled a series of workshops in April that might be of interest to area farmers.
A Farm Estate and Transition Planning Workshop is planned from 9:00 a.m. till noon on Wednesday, April 3rd, at the First National Bank basement in Syracuse.
Nemaha County Extension Educator Gary Lesoing says the Extension service is partnering with several other agencies to organize the workshop, with funding from a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant. (play audio :30)
There is no charge to attend the workshop. Contact the Rural Response Hotline at 800-464-0258 to register.
An April 9th workshop focuses on marketing. Lesoing says farmers will use a new crop-marketing tool called MINE – or the Marketing in a New Era program. That’s an electronic commodity marketing simulation game designed to help farmers develop their marketing skills. (play audio :15)
The marketing workshop will be held from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9th, at the Kimmel Education and Research Center in Nebraska City. Space is limited, so if you’re interested in attending you need to contact the Otoe County Extension Office at 402-269-2301 by April 5th to register.
UNL Extension is also sponsoring a series of workshops for beginning farmers and ranchers. Lesoing says these workshops are geared towards non-traditional farmers or those looking to add a niche market to a traditional operation.
A workshop focusing on mob grazing and grass fed beef, will be held April 4th at the Agricultural Research and Development Center in Ithaca. Three other workshops – April 8th at the Lancaster County Extension office in Lincoln, April 12th at the ARDC in Ithaca, and April 16th in Omaha – will focus on fruit and vegetable production. There is no charge to attend any of the workshops, but registration is required at least three days prior to each event. For more information, or to register, call Gary Lesoing at the Nemaha County Extension office, at 402-274-4755.
