( KNZA )-Security cameras will be installed at two city-owned facilities in Hiawatha.

The Hiawatha City Commission Monday evening accepted a proposal from Rainbow Communications for the purchase and installation of five security cameras in the Fisher Center and one camera in the area of the municipal swimming pool at a cost of $4,670.

City Administrator Lynne Ladner said there has been some vandalism and theft issues at both facilities.

In other business, the commission voted to have the engineering firm BG Consultants of Lawrence prepare some conceptual design layouts and cost estimates for the reconstruction of Lodge Road and reconstruction of streets in the Indian Hills Subdivision.

The firm will do the preliminary engineering work at a total cost of 35-hundred to 45-hundred dollars.

Commissioners were told the Lodge Road project could be eligible for funding through the Community Development Block Grant program, but the earliest the city can apply is 2014.
