(KNZA)--A jury trial is underway this week in Jackson County where a Mayetta man is accused of numerous crimes, including attempted first degree murder.
35-year-old Brian Eugene Vaught was arrested July 21st following a series of events, beginning with a call from the Holton Wal-Mart, regarding an incident of domestic violence.
Holton Police responded, with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office helping to oversee the investigation.
A female victim alleged that she and her 5-year-old son had earlier been held captive at Vaught's home where he allegedly threatened her, and the child, with firearms.
Authorities say Vaught also strangled her until she lost consciousness.
In September, Vaught entered a plea of “not guilty,” leading to this week's jury trial where, along with attempted first degree murder, he is also accused of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of criminal threat, and several misdemeanor offenses.
The trial is expected to last through the week.
Vaught remains in the Jackson County Jail on 500-thousand-dollars bond.
