(KNZA)--Although they are not collecting items for the holiday season, including presents for the children, the Northeast Kansas Community Action Program will provide food baskets for those who might otherwise go without(Play Audio)
That's Carmen Lee, Family Development Advocate for NEK-CAP. She says the food baskets will be made available for senior citizens and individuals without children who have not already applied for the Christmas Store. In order to take part in the program, eligibility requirements must be met, with applications being accepted Friday and again November 21st and November 27th(Play Audio)
That process will happen, during those hours, at the NEK-CAP Administrative Office, 1260, 220th Street in Hiawatha. Eligibility is based on a household income not exceeding 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Meanwhile, in order to fill the Christmas Baskets, Lee says NEK-CAP is currently holding a local food drive(Play Audio)
Among the top food items hoping to be collected are gravy mix, stuffing, vegetables, cake mix, frosting, jello, and other non-perishable foods.
The food baskets will be distributed December 12th and 13th, with the times and locations to be determined.
