(KNZA)--Delays are experienced by motorists traveling a section of U.S. Highway 36, including areas of both Brown and Doniphan Counties.
The concrete pavement repair project began Monday on the 14-point-6 mile portion of U.S. 36 from just west of Ash Point Road in Brown County to east of East Locust Street in the Doniphan County community of Troy.
Work, taking place during daylight hours Monday through Friday, and occasional Saturdays, includes full and partial depth patching of the existing concrete pavement.
During the course of the project, eastbound and westbound U.S. 36 traffic is being reduced to one lane for both directions, along with occasional adjacent cross road closures, with motorists guided through the work zone by a pilot car and flagger.
Delays up to 15 minutes should be expected.
All work is being coordinated, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation, so that all lanes will be opened to traffic a half-hour before sunset.
Overall project work is scheduled for completion in December, if weather allows.
Kansas Heavy Construction, LLC, of Shawnee, Kansas, is the primary contractor for the project, which carries a price tag of 646-thousand-634-dollars.
It's funded through the T-WORKS transportation program approved by the 2010 Kansas Legislature.
