Doniphan Co Commission Adopts 2013 Budget
09/18/2012

( KNZA )-- The Doniphan County Commission has adopted the 2013 budget as published, which calls for a 1.5 mill property tax levy decrease.

The approval followed a hearing Monday during which county resident Jack Euler questioned the status of funding for economic development.

Commissioner Wayne Grable said the current cash on hand will fund the program next year, although a tax levy may be needed in 2014 to continue to fund the program.

Commissioner Jerry McKernan said the commissions intent is to have an economic development program, but perhaps not a full-time director and part-time office assistant.

The budget was adopted on a 2-1 vote, with Commissioner Grable voting no.  Grable said he felt the mill levy rate could be reduced further by removing $175,000 from the road and bridge fund capital outlay and chip seal line items.
