Labor Day Weekend Coffee Stop at Sabetha Rest Area
( KMZA )-- Once again, the Labor Day Weekend Coffee Stop will be open at the four-mile corner rest area south of Sabetha on U.S. 36 Highway.
For 52 years, the coffee stop has offered cookies, coffee and juice to tired travelers 24 hours a day, from late Friday afternoon to early Monday evening. Hundreds visit the coffee stop each year.
The Sabetha Church of the Brethren originated the event and continued to sponsor it through the years, along with the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. However this year, the stop is sponsored only by the First United Methodist Church.
Volunteers at the coffee stop work in groups of four and are at the shelter house around the clock in four hour shifts. Workers for each shift bring cookies to share.
Anyone wanting to help out or donate cookies can contact Phil Figgs at (785) 284-3622.
