Horton Among Two Local Cities Receiving State Funds

(KNZA)--Improving intersections and addressing road deficiencies is the goal behind Kansas Department of Transportation Funding for fiscal year 2015 to include 18 cities, including two in the local area.

The total of 10-point-9-million-dollars is allocated through KDOT's Geometric Improvement Program, and includes 150-thousand-200-dollars for the City of Horton(Play Audio)

That's Horton Mayor Tim Lentz who, this morning, learned that the city has been awarded the funding(Play Audio)

Lentz says the timing for the overhaul of the Highway 73 and 15th Street intersection is perfect, as it will tie in with other upcoming revitalization projects in Horton(Play Audio)

Meanwhile, the Geometric improvement program will provide 700-thousand-dollars for City of Leavenworth upgrades.

The selected roads are located within city limits, but are part of the state highway system.

Matching funds are based on the size of each city, and ranges from 75 percent for the largest cities to 100 percent for the smallest, such as Horton.

The Geometric Improvement Program is funded through T-WORKS, which was approved by the 2010 Legislature.
