The Mound City School Board did not hold a Tax Rate and Budget hearing Wednesday night as had been scheduled.
Superintendent Ken Eaton says the board tabled the hearing until either August 23rd or August 28th, since the district may be able to revise the amount it receives from the state assessed railroads and utilities. Eaton explains that the school district’s local property tax levy decreases when the district receives more money through the assessed railroads and utilities. (play audio :28)
Eaton says the local levy dropped by about eight cents this year. He says it’s probably worth waiting to see if the state accepts their revised numbers before holding the tax rate and budget hearing.
In other action, the Mound City Board approved the appointment of Debbie Loucks as the district’s Custodian of Records, and the tuition rate of $3,500 for the next year.
Eaton says the Mound City School District got some good news in its Annual Performance Report. That encompasses several areas, including standardized test scores in the areas of math, science, communication arts, and social studies for grades three through 12. (play audio :38)
Another piece of good news, Eaton says, is that the Mound City School District is considered to be a “high performing” school. (play audio :18)
Monday is the first day of classes for students in the Mound City School District.
