Ladner In Running For Colby City Manager Job

( KNZA )--Hiawatha City Administrator Lynne Ladner is in the running to be the next city manager of Colby, Kansas.

Sam Dieter, a reporter for the Colby Free Press, said Ladner was among four candidates interviewed by the Colby City Council for the position July 10th-11th.

While Ladner declined to comment, Hiawatha Mayor Crosby Gernon said Colby is a larger community, and Ladner informed the commission that she was applying for the job.

Gernon added that it certainly is her right to apply for a higher paying job if she chooses. He said many of the recent positive developments in Hiawatha have come from Ladner’s efforts including the new hotel, the walking trail, and the new daycare center.

Last week, the Hiawatha City Commission voted to amend Ladner’s contract with the city, increasing her base salary by more than 15-hundred to $70,000.

Ladner has served as Hiawatha City Administrator for six years.

Colby City Clerk Joni Ketchum said today ( Thursday ) the council hasn’t hired a new city manager yet, and she didn’t known when that decision will come.

Dieter says the council has indicated they hope to have someone on board in September. The position came open after the resignation of Carolyn Armstrong in early June. Randy Jones, the city’s police chief, is serving as interim manager until a new city manager is hired.

Colby, with a population of more than 54-hundred, is the county seat of Thomas County in northwest Kansas.
