Former Hamlin Council Member Dies
08/13/2012

(KNZA)--A well known member of the Hamlin community has died.

Vernon May was 89 when he died Saturday afternoon at the Sabetha Community Hospital.
A familiar face throughout Brown County, driving grain trucks for area farmers, May also served a number of terms on the Hamlin City Council.
Among his numerous survivors are his wife, Anna. Married for 70-years, the couple made Hamlin there home for more than 40.
Born in Oskaloosa, where he attended school, Vernon May married Anna in 1942, and the two of them, prior to their move to Brown County, operated a cafe and gas station for 11 years at Baldwin Junction at the intersection of highways 56 and 59.
Funeral services for Vernon May are planned for Wednesday.
The Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha is in charge of arrangements.
