( KNZA )--Three area lakes remain under a “ Public Health Advisory” due to the threat of toxic blue green algae.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said today ( Friday ) the Atchison State Fishing Lake, Brown County State Fishing Lake and Centralia Lake in Nemaha County continue under an advisory status.
KDHE says water activities like boating and fishing may be safe. However, direct contact with the water—such as wading and swimming—is strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock.
Fish from the lakes should be cleaned and rinsed with clean water, and only the fillet portion eaten.
KDHE will continue to monitor the situation.
