Local Crops Feel Drought Affects
08/07/2012

(KNZA)--The affects of drought are being felt across Kansas, with farmers throughout the state struggling to rescue whatever they can of early planted crops, hit hard by the extremely hot, dry conditions experienced this summer.

Locally, it remains a matter of wait and see regarding exactly how the corn crop has been impacted(Play Audio)

That's Brown County Extension Agent Matt Young(Play Audio)

Also unknown is how the test weight on the local corn crop will check in, as compared to corn crops elsewhere in the state(Play Audio)

Young says soybeans are another matter, with time still available to see a good result of this season's crop(Play Audio)

The devastating hot, dry conditions have ravaged crops across the state, with many farmers, in areas outside the local area, all but giving up on the corn, using it for silage in an attempt to salvage some use from the weather beaten crop.
