Resurfacing Project to Begin On K-120 In Doniphan County

( KNZA )--A resurfacing project began today ( Thursday ) on a 9-mile stretch of K-120 in Doniphan County from K-20 junction to the south city limits of Highland.

Crews will first mill away the top 2-inches of pavement then apply a 2-inch asphalt overlay that uses some of the material recycled from the milling process, followed by a bituminous seal and all new pavement markings.

The resurfacing project will smooth the road and fill surface defects that can shorten pavement life.

Work will take place daily, Monday through Friday, during daylight hours. The work will be coordinated so that all lanes will be opened to traffic by one-half hour before sunset each day.

Northbound and southbound K-120 traffic will be reduced to one lane for both directions along with intermittent closures of adjacent cross roads during the project work hours for resurfacing work.

Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via a pilot car and flagger operation. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible

Dustrol, Inc. of Towanda, KS is the primary contractor on the more than $810,000 project, which is scheduled to be completed in early September, weather permitting. .

The project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.
