Rural Brown Co Thefts On the Rise
07/25/2012
(KNZA)--Brown County authorities are reporting a trend that's continuing to cause concerns: a high rate of thefts occurring in rural areas.
Sheriff John Merchant commends the assistance provided by the public so far in remaining alert and reporting suspicious activity(Play Audio)
Because the increased thefts are occurring primarily in rural, sometimes remote, locations Brown County residents are reminded that small steps, such as purchasing an additional padlock or double checking locks on storage units, can go far in preventing thefts(Play Audio)
Merchant says other measures, like increasing lighting or buying a dog, are also good theft deterrents(Play Audio)
Merchant says the key is awareness, and for neighbors to stick together and keep watch for unusual activity.
Anyone who notices something out of the ordinary in the rural locations of Brown County is asked to notify his office so that it can be investigated.
