07/24/2012

(KTNC) - Area livestock producers will have a chance to discuss gap forages, and emergency feeds and forages during the fourth Focus on Forages meeting sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension.
The meeting will be held next Tuesday, July 31st, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Hundley-Whaley Research Center in Gentry County.
Discussion will take place on options for managing livestock until the drought is over, and how to handle pastures that have been damaged by drought.
The meeting will begin with a tour of the fescue and legume plots at the research farm, and there will be a demonstration on how to test for nitrate levels in corn stalks.  Attendees can bring stalks to be tested at the meeting.
Those planning to attend the event should RSVP to the Gentry County Extension office at 660-726-5610 by the end of business today (Tuesday) so accurate meal preparations can be made.
The University of Missouri Extension will hold additional drought meetings Monday, August 6th at the Atchison County Extension Center in Rock Port; Wednesday, August 8th at the Library in Gallatin; and Monday, August 13th at the Courthouse in Maysville.  All three meetings will start at 7:00 p.m.
