(KNZA)--Flags are being flown at half-staff across the nation in honor of the victims of the Aurora, Colorado shooting that took place early Friday morning.
Authorities say it happened when a gunman opened fire in movie theater just minutes into the highly anticipated midnight showing of the latest Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises.” 12 moviegoers were killed and numerous others injured.
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, in conjunction with the Executive Order from President Obama, has ordered all flags across Kansas to remain at half-staff from sun-up until sundown each day, from now through sunset on July 25th.
Brownback says thoughts and prayers are offered to the family and friends of the shooting victims in what he calls a senseless act of violence, adding that the entire nation mourns the loss.
Authorities have named the gunman as 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes, arrested, without incident, outside the Colorado movie theater, but allegedly in possession of an AR-15 assault rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun and a glock .40 caliber handgun.
He had apparently also discharged tear gas in the theater prior to opening fire.
