Funding Requests Cut by Brown Co. Commission
07/16/2012

( KNZA )--The Brown County Commission has chopped $486,000 from budget requests for 2013.
The commission took the action today ( Monday ) after County Clerk Debbie Parker told them they would need to cut about a half-million dollars  in order to hold the property tax levy at the same level for next year.
The commission is expected to approve a proposed 2013 budget for publication during the first part of August.
The commission will then consider adoption of the budget following a public hearing.  Parker says the hearing needs to take place before August 25th.
In other business, the commission approved a proposal for the replacement of a bridge in Robinson Township near the intersection of 180th and Plum Tree Roads with a low water crossing at an estimated cost of nearly $39,000.
Under the proposal, Midwest Construction will construct the crossing with the county purchasing the supplies and doing the approach work.  The county will also remove the existing bridge.
Following a closed-door session,  the commission approved the hiring of Kurtis Killman as a part-time Services for the Elderly taxi driver in Hiawatha, effective immediately.
