Newly named USD 430 School Board President Tim McClaskey (center) begins duties in his new role during Monday night's School Board meeting.
(KNZA)--In what came as a surprise to observers, longtime USD 430 School Board President Venice Sloan moved to surrender her role of leadership when the Board of Education for the South Brown County Schools met Monday.
It happened as the School Board reorganized for the 2012-2013 school year.
As board clerk Jean Anne Becker took over temporary oversight of the meeting, to allow the nomination for board president, Sloan nominated Tim McClaskey, who became the only nominee for the position.
Hearing no other motions, the vote was called, and McClaskey was unanimously selected for the position.
He says, despite his feigned apprehension to his nomination, that Sloan's choice came as no surprise to him, and plans to keep the board in the direction it's currently headed, instead of making any major adjustments in his time of leadership.
Sloan offered no comment as to why she nominated McClaskey to fill the position she has held since July 2002.
McClaskey has served on the board for 12 years.
Sloan now serves as a regular board member.
Named to the role of School Board Vice-President is Gregg Dishon, who, despite not being in attendance Monday, was nominated by board member Roger Madere.
Following additional appointments, and adjustments for the next school year, the board launched into a lengthy discussion regarding future league membership.
Ultimately, it was decided, by unanimous vote, to pursue joining the Twin Valley League, which would become effective, if approved, for the 2013-2014 school year.
