Proposed 2013 Seneca City Budget Approved for Publication
The Seneca City Council has approved for publication a proposed 2013 budget of nearly 7 million dollars that calls for no change in the property tax levy.
The proposed budget approved for publication Wednesday evening contains an estimated tax rate of 32.338 mills, which is expected to generate nearly $588,000.
Even though the budget calls for a more than 155-thousand dollar increase in expenditures over this year, the city was able to hold the mill levy at the same rate due to a $334,000 increase in the city’s assessed valuation to nearly $18.2 million.
The council will consider adoption of the budget following a public hearing at their August 15th council meeting.
In other business, the council tabled action on a rezoning request for property located at 214 North 1st Street because three council members were absent.
The city Planning Commission has recommended that the property owned by Leonard and Cecilia Stuke be rezoned form a residential to commercial district. If rezoned, the Stuke’s plan to sell the property to Richard Allen who plans to build an electrical shop on the property
And the council voted to hire Anna Ruske of Seneca for the assistant city clerk and municipal court clerk position. She will begin work the week of July 23rd at a starting salary of $11 an hour.
Ruske was among four candidates interviewed by the personnel committee for the position from among 13 applicants.
