Seneca City Administrator Tammi Haverkamp reported to the city council Wednesday evening on the formation of the committee....( play audio )
Haverkamp says the committee plans to make a formal presentation to the council in July.
Nemaha Central USD 115 Superintendent Darrel Kohlman told his board of education last week that the committee has discussed the purchase of the Teddy Bear Care building, which is operating as a 501(c)3.
Kohlman said he has contacted legal staff with the Kansas Association of School Boards and found the school district can buy the building and lease it to a 501(c)3 group. The current Teddy Bear 501(c)3 status can be transferred to the new business.
Kohlman said the group is also looking at the former medical arts office building and is waiting on a recommendation from an architect to see what renovations would be necessary to make that building work.
