Sabetha Takes Game 1 of Double-Header versus Hiawatha with Second Game Suspended
Weather didn't deter Sabetha and Hiawatha from starting their games last night, as they got the first game fully in but had to suspend the second game in the third inning, to restart play on June 30th.
Sabetha erased and early 2-0 Hiawatha lead to win game one of a scheduled twinbill 12-6. Sabetha scored five runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 10-2 lead. Hiawatha plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth and a single run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-6. Sabetha answered with a pair of runs in the seventh for the final margin. Thaine Allen, Graham Droge & Kyle Stallbaumer all had two hits for Sabetha. Stallbaumer had 4 RBI's and Riley Wells added 3 RBI's for Sabetha. Hiawatha was led by Brendon Steele's two runs scored and 2-run triple. Graham Howard pitched the first four innings for the win and Brendon Garrett pitched the final three frames for the save. Kyle White went the distance for Hiawatha.
Game 2 was suspended with Sabetha leading 4-3 and no outs in the bottom of the 3rd with a Hiawatha runner on first. The final 2.5 innings will be restarted at the suspension point in Hiawatha on July 16th in front of the Hiawatha's schedule game against Atchison that night.
Sabetha with the win in game one are now 18-4 (8-0 league) and will next be in action on Sunday at home in a non-league double-header versus Leavenworth at 1:00 and 3:00pm. Hiawatha with the loss is 1-17 (0-9 league) and will next be in action on Sunday, also in a league double-header with Frankfort on the road at 4:00 and 6:00pm.
