23 year old Chelsea Porter of Falls City entered a plea of no contest to a class I misdemeanor charge of child abuse in Richardson County District Court as part of a plea agreement.
Porter had been scheduled for a jury trial on a class 3-A felony charge of Child Abuse. Earlier Porter entered a plea of no contest to a misdemeanor charge of false reporting.
On or about October 12th, 2011, Porter is accused of negligently causing or permitted a minor child to be placed in a situation endangering the child’s life or physical or mental health.
A pre-sentencing investigation has been ordered. Porter will be sentenced on the child abuse charge on July 24th.
In October of 2011 Falls City Police officers were called to Community Medical Center in Falls City when a 10 month old child was brought to the emergency room with injuries the medical professionals felt may have been caused in a child abuse situation.
Porter told the child’s mother that while she was babysitting for the child, he fell from a couch and landed on a toy. Porter also told the mother the incident has occurred while she left the child with another person while she was at a dental appointment. She said when she returned the child’s face was badly bruised.
After the other person was arrested, the investigation continued and the Police Department conducted another interview with Porter and she was then arrested and the other person released.
