Sabetha resident Steve Lukert has decided to run for Kansas Senate.
The former House Representative, who oversaw the local 62nd District, filed Friday, as a Democrat, for the seat long-held by rural Hiawatha Republican Dennis Pyle.
Lukert is the second challenger to enter the ring.
On Tuesday, Marje Cochren, of Whiting, filed for election as a Republican, meaning a primary contest for Pyle.
The deadline to file for those seeking state offices is Monday.
