Brown Co Relay Returns Friday
06/07/2012

It's become an annual tradition in Brown County, and returns, for another year, at the end of this week.

That's when the Brown County Relay For Life will be held, with the event again raising funds in the battle against cancer.

Laura Brobst is among the many committee members working to the make the relay happen(Play Audio)

Once it kicks into gear, the Relay for Life, working under the mantra “Bat Away Cancer,” will run into the next morning, with that time line serving as a symbolic reminder of  cancer survivors(Play Audio)

Brobst says between start to finish, numerous events, and activities, will be held as part of the event(Play Audio)

Along with those activities, Brobst says entertainment will also be found on site(Play Audio)

There will also be a dj, a silent auction, kids games and activities, a quilt drawing and crafts.

Brobst says, despite the fun of the night, the focus is always, first and foremost, on raising funds needed to assist with cancer research(Play Audio)

The true meaning behind the Relay for Life each year is found during the traditional luminary ceremony, beginning Friday night at 10:00.  Candles are lit inside bags that bear the names of both cancer survivors, and victims, and serve as a reminder of the importance of the event.

Relay members will walk all night, with team members taking turns on the track, while others rest, or nap, leading to the conclusion on Saturday morning.
