Plea Deal Reached in Beatrice Abuse Case
The Gage County District Attorney’s office says plea agreements have been reached with three of the five former employees at the Beatrice State Developmental Center accused of abuse. A fourth case is said to be close to working out a deal.
Jury trials for the five were scheduled to start July 9th. Last fall, 30 felony charges were filed against the five former workers at the center. Some of the charges could be amended from felonies to misdemeanors.
As part of the plea deals, the defendants would agree to testify if the state calls them as witnesses in future cases. The alleged assaults happened last year and involved six residents of a now-closed facility where men with severe developmental disabilities were living.
