Following controversial comments made by a Seneca pastor, which appear to call for the government to kill homosexuals, a statement on the issue is released by Seneca City Administrator Tami Haverkamp.
In the brief statement, Haverkamp says, "As a unit of local government, I want to make it publicly clear that we are a peaceful community that generally lives together without conflict. We do not advocate violence of any sort.”
Haverkamp's statement follows national attention placed on the Nemaha County community after the sermon, delivered last Sunday by Pastor Curtis Knapp of Seneca's New Hope Baptist Church, was posted Wednesday in the Huffington Post(Play Audio)
Our attempts to contact Knapp have been unsuccessful; however, Kansas First News Wednesday did gain an exclusive interview with the Pastor.
According to Kansas First News, Knapp clarifies that homosexuals have nothing to worry about from him, as he wouldn't lay a finger against them, hoping for their salvation not their death.
Other comments Knapp made during the interview make it appear that he is referencing homosexuality as a crime similar to incest or polygamy.
