It was a sweep for Sabetha, Seneca, Frankfort and Holton on Sunday in their respective Legion baseball games.
Sabetha pounded out 31 hits in a double header sweep of Atchison Sunday 16-5 and 12-7.
Game 1: Sabetha 16 Atchison 5
Sabetha scored 11 runs in the second inning to take a 16-5 win. Riley Wells pitched the first 4 innings and allowed only one hit. Kyle Stallbaumer had 3 hits, 2 runs & 3 RBI's. Thaine Allen, Graham Droge, Taylor Bauman & Tate Steinlage joined Stallbaumer in the multi-hit category with 2 hits. Riley Wells, Droge, Bauman & Steinlage each had 2 RBI's.
Game 2: Sabetha 12 Atchison 7
Sabetha overcame a 7-3 deficit by scoring 4 runs in the 6th and 5 runs in the 7th to defeat Atchison 12-7. Benji Stoller pitched the final 4 innings of shutout relief to pick up his second win of the young season. Stoller also contributed a pair of hits, runs & RBI's to help himself. Riley Wells had 3 hits and Nolan Keim, Tate Steinlage & Derek Chadwell each had a pair of hits. Kyle Stallbaumer, Wells & Chadwell all had 2 RBI's.
Sabetha improves to 4-1 (2-0 league) while Atchison drops to 0-2. Sabetha plays Tecumseh Tuesday at approximately 8:00pm at Somerset Park. Next game for Atchison will be Friday in the Northeast Kansas League Tournament at Somerset Park in Sabetha at 6:00pm versus Royal Valley.
Seneca swept Royal Valley in a double header winning 14-3 and 9-7. Seneca improved to 2-0 on the season and will be action again this Wednesday at home versus Hiawatha at 8:00pm; you can hear the game on 103.9 KNZA and 92.1 KMZA. For Royal Valley they are 0-2 on the season, with their next game at Holton on Wednesday in a DH at 4:00 & 6:00pm.
Frankfort scored two, two-run victories over Doniphan County Sunday 3-1 and 5-3.
Game 1: Frankfort 3 Doniphan County 1
It was a pitching duel between Frankfort's Alex Surdez and Doniphan Counties, Derek Nold who each only gave up four-hits to the opposing team in the matchup it was Frankfort being able to plate more runs with a 3-1 win. Sudrez threw a complete game for Frankfort earning the win, while Nold was given the loss but strukeout 14 in his performance. Lucas Adams had a multi-hit game for Frankfort with an RBI in game one.
Game 2: Frankfort 5 Doniphan County 3
Second game of the double header featured a little more offense but it was Frankfort's offense coming out on top once more for another two-run win, 5-3. Brett Burdiek made it back-to-back complete game pitching performances for Frankfort on the day as he earned the win giving up eight hits. Zach Halter, was the losing pitcher for Doniphan County giving up nine hits and issusing five walks, in his outing. Sam Steinlage, Alez Surdez and Quentin Ross each had a multi-hit game for Frankfort in the win.
Frankfort is now 2-0 on the season and will be action again this Wednesday at home versus Sabetha at 7:30pm. While Doniphan County (0-3) will play a road game tonight (Tuesday) at Auburn at 8:00pm.
Holton to finished with a sweep of their double header on Sunday with 12-2 and 12-9 wins, both ending in walk-off home-runs.
Game 1: Holton 12 Hiawatha 2
First game finished with a 12-2 final score; the game ended via the run-rule after Jay Morris hit a walk-off homerun to enforce the run-rule.
Game 2: Holton 12 Hiawatha 9
Game two was a tighter game, but would ultimately have the same outcome as Kolton Oliverius blasted a three-run walk-off homerun to notch the win and the double header sweep for Holton.
Holton is now 2-0 to start the Legion baseball season and will play next at home against Royal Valley Wednesday in a DH at 4:00 & 6:00pm. While Hiawatha (0-2) will continue their season on the road versus Seneca at 8:00pm; you can hear the game on 103.9 KNZA and 92.1 KMZA
