The deadline is approaching for farmers to sign up for some USDA programs. According to Nemaha County Nebraska Farm Service Agency Executive Director Joni Johnson, June 1st is the final date farmers can apply for Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program – or SURE – payments. That is also the deadline to enroll in the 2012 Direct and Counter-cyclical Program and the Average Crop Revenue Election.
The SURE program compensates farm producers for production or quality losses as a result of natural disasters. Anyone who sustained losses during the 2010 crop year must apply for payments by June 1st.
While SURE helps after natural disasters, the other two programs provide additional income support.
For more information on any of the programs, contact your county’s FSA office. The number for the Nemaha County office is 402-274-4987.
