Unemployment was down in area northeast Kansas counties in April.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the April unemployment rates today ( Friday).
Leavenworth County had the highest jobless rate in the area at 7.1 percent, while Nemaha County had the lowest at 3.3 percent.
Elsewhere, Atchison County’s jobless rate in April was 6.6 percent; Brown County, 5 percent; Doniphan County, 6.6 percent; Jackson County, 6 percent; Jefferson County, 6.1 percent; Marshall County, 4 percent; and Pottawatomie County, 4.6 percent.
All the unemployment rates were down from March and also from April of last year.
State officials report the jobless rate in Kansas during April was 6.1 percent. That’s down from 6.2 percent in March and 6.7 percent in April of last year.
Labor officials say the state continues to show job growth, but it has slowed in the past three months.
