The Youth Group of the Falls City Cooperative Ministry of the First Christian Church in Falls City and the Zion United Church of Christ northeast of Falls City are curb painting.
What is curb painting you may ask. It is not art work or graffiti, but the painting of your home address on the curb in front of your house.
Having your address painted on the curb is one way to help emergency responders find your home in an emergency. Falls City Fire Chief Ken Simpson talked about the importance. ( play audio :25 seconds )
After practicing on some home of church members, the Youth Group is now ready to take on the entire town. Beginning Saturday, May 19th the project will hit full stride. The price to have your address painted on your curb in black numerals on a white background is $5. If you live on a corner and want two curbs painted the price is $7.
Money raised by the youngsters will help them with mission trips that in the past year included going to Joplin, Missouri to help with tornado recovery as well as other youth group programs and camps.
Amy Olberding, Vice President of the Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad says the addresses on curbs will be a great benefit for the Ambulance Squad, especially at night. ( play audio :28 seconds )
If you want to have the address painted in front of your house, call the Falls City Cooperative Ministry Office at 402-245-2398, by noon on Friday, May 18th. Again that number is 402-245-2398.
