A Linwood teenager was seriously injured when the all terrain vehicle he was riding was struck by a sports utility vehicle on U.S. 59 highway in Atchison County Saturday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 16-year-old James Handke was riding his Kawasaki ATV southbound on the right hand shoulder of the highway about one mile west of Cummings when he turned left in front of a southbound Ford Expedition driven by 53-year-old Linda Buttron of Nortonville.
Handke was flown by Lifenet to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City with disabling injuries.
Buttron was not hurt.
