Auburn is one of the few communities in the area that still has a movie theater. The Auburn situation is unique in that the school district actually owns the theater. Like any other business new technology requires updates in the theater business and in Auburn that means around $65,000 for a new digital projector.
Auburn School Superintendent Kevin Reiman said the School Board this week approved the application for a USDA Rural Development Grant to help with the expensive updates. ( play audio :32 seconds )
During Monday’s Auburn School Board meeting the Board approved the purchase of the new digital projector. ( play audio :29 seconds )
Superintendent Reiman said a number of donations have made it possible to make the purchase without using school district funds for upgrades. ( play audio :16 seconds )
Reiman said donations so far total just under $75,000. ( play audio :33 seconds )
A big boost in the fund raising effort was City Council approval for use of approximately $63,000 in Keno Funds that need to be used for community betterment projects. Superintendent Reiman says other groups and individuals have also been very generous. ( play audio :37 seconds )
The purchase of the new projector will also let the theater earn money from Christie Digital Systems when digital movies are shown. ( play audio :38 seconds )
