A 35-year-old Sabetha man is in custody, following his arrest, in Jackson County, on charges related to transporting a mobile meth lab.
Holton Police Chief Gale Gakle says the case began with an early morning traffic stop, around 4:20 Wednesday, on South U.S. Highway 73 in Holton, involving a vehicle driven by Joel Dean Collins(Play Audio :12 seconds)
Jackson County Sheriff's deputies, as well the agency's Meth Lab Recovery Unit were called to assist at the scene; and, later, based on the potentially dangerous nature of the suspected meth lab, a hazardous materials unit was also brought in(Play Audio :13 seconds)
Collins was taken to the Jackson County Jail where he's held on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.
Bond is pending.
