The Hiawatha Middle School Science Olympiad team advances to state competition.
The team took 7th place out of 25 teams this past Saturday at the Northeast Kansas Regional Tournament held at Johnson County Community College, qualifying the team to go to state.
The team placed in the top six in 8 of the 23 events.
The state tournament will be held April 7th at Wichita State University.
The Hiawatha School Board Monday evening approved a request from Science Olympiad coach Laura Albers for the 15 team members and five alternates to attend the state tournament.
The cost of the trip will be paid by a grant awarded to the Science Olympiad team from the Hiawatha Kiawanis Foundation.
