Nemaha County has been awarded a nearly $568,000 federal grant that will be used to purchase new radio equipment for law enforcement and emergency personnel in the county.
County Emergency Preparedness Director Todd Swart informed Nemaha County Commissioners today ( Monday ) of the regional Assistance to Firefighters Grant award.
Swart said the federal share of the grant is 95 percent, with county responsible for the remainder...
Haug Communications in Seneca provided the cost estimates for the grant application and will provide the equipment for the upgrades.
The upgrade is to be completed before January 1st, 2013.
It was the county’s second attempt at receiving the funds, which are distributed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

This was VERY much needed! In a rural setting where you have no to very little income or profit from Emergency Services, this grant will allow those of us in EMS, law enforcement, fire departments and Emergency preparedness to continue to serve the citizens of Nemaha County in a suitable and up to date manner! Thanks Todd for keeping up the good work!
