Details are made public regarding an under investigation internet scam that bilked a
Nemaha County resident of 37-thousand-dollars; and based on the scope of the scheme, federal authorities have been assisting.
According to Nemaha County Sheriff Rich Vernon, the scam involved items for sale online, that after money was paid, were not available(Play Audio :15 seconds)
According to Vernon, the item in question was competitively priced, and there were no tell-tale signs that the website would prove to be a rip-off(Play Audio :22 seconds)
Unlike many internet scams, authorities have been able to develop leads into possible suspects-and the possible return of lost money(Play Audio :22 seconds)
Vernon says while there's never a 100% guarantee, there are ways consumers, shopping on-line, can protect themselves(Play Audio :22 seconds)
Also, when using on-line sites for shopping, choose those that are well known, and reputable, and take time to read reviews from other customers, to help evaluate the reputation of the seller.
