Fast action on the part of local emergency crews puts to an end what could have been a devastating grassland fire.
It broke out this afternoon, with Brown County residents alerted before 3:00 of the potential threat, as the fire spread from Jackson County.
Measuring about a mile wide, and burning between Jackrabbit and Horned Owl Roads, about a mile south of Brown County, numerous fire crews, including those from Jackson County, rushed to the scene(Play Audio)
That's Brown County Emergency Preparedness Director Randy Linck who says the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, as crews remain on the scene(Play Audio)
The fire had been brought under control by late in the afternoon, serving as relief to local residents, as south winds gusted as high as 35 miles per hour.
