A number of local residents were in attendance Saturday, as Kansas native Martina McBride hit the stage at Kansas City's Sprint Center, serving as the opener for the
so-called “Chairman of Country Music” George Strait.
However, after McBride sang for one hour, Strait hit the stage...but could only muster two songs.
In a hoarse voice, showing apparent signs of laryngitis, he told the crowd he just couldn't do it.
Instead of being disappointed, the crowd, numbering 18-thousand, gave Strait a standing ovation as he left the stage.
Not one to disappoint his fans, Strait will return to Kansas City this Saturday to perform a make-up show for those who were there for his shortened set.
Martina McBride will return as well.
