National Weather Service Says Repeat Flooding Unlikely in Nebraska
VALLEY, Neb. (AP) _ The National Weather Service says a repeat
of last year's massive flooding along the Missouri River appears
unlikely in Nebraska in 2012.
The Weather Service says the risk for flooding this spring is
near or below normal at most places in the state. That's good news
for people still recovering from last year's flooding.
The mild winter hasn't allowed much thick ice to form on
Nebraska rivers, so the chances of ice jam floods are down.
Mountain snowpack levels in the North Platte River basins are below
normal. But those things could change if the weather shifts.
The Weather Service says the chance of flooding along the North
Platte River downstream of Lake McConaughy is above normal. At this
point, only minor to moderate flooding near North Platte is
expected.
